We hope this blog finds you in good health and high spirits. As July approaches, we wanted to remind you that it is Dry Eye Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about this common eye condition that affects millions of people worldwide.
Dry eye occurs when your eyes do not produce enough tears or when the quality of your tears are unhealthy, leading to discomfort, irritation, and even vision problems. This condition can be caused by a variety of factors, including aging, environmental conditions, lifestyle habits, medications, and medical conditions.
Unfortunately, many people with dry eye symptoms do not seek treatment, thinking it is just a minor inconvenience. However, if left untreated, dry eye can lead to more severe eye problems, such as corneal damage and infections.
Therefore, we encourage you to take care of your eyes and raise awareness about dry eye during July, Dry Eye Awareness Month. Here are some tips to help you keep your eyes healthy and prevent dry eye symptoms:
- Blink regularly, especially when reading, using a computer or mobile device for prolonged peroids of time.
- Take frequent breaks when doing visually demanding tasks and look away from the screen regularly.
- Use preservative-free artificial tears or lubricating eye drops to keep your eyes moist and comfortable (ie Optase MGD, Oasis Tears, Retaine MGD, iVizia).
- Avoid exposure to smoke, wind, and dry air, which can aggravate dry eye symptoms.
- Do your best to get quality sleep.
- Increase intake of colorful foods rich in carotenoids.
- Wear sunglasses with 100% UV protection to shield your eyes from harmful rays.
- Schedule an annual eye exam and screen for dry eye disease.
By taking these simple steps early, you can be proactive in slowing down the development of dry eye symptoms and improve your overall eye health.
We hope you found this information helpful and that you will join us in spreading awareness about dry eye this July. Don't forget to share this blog with your friends and family members to help them protect their eyes too.
Thank you for your attention, and we wish you all the best for a healthy and happy July.
