Regener-Eyes Q & A

What is regenerative medicine?

Regenerative medicine is an emerging area of medical care that focuses on healing or replacing your diseased or damaged tissue to restore function and health. By comparison, modern medical care typically focuses on treatments that alleviate symptoms.

With regenerative medicine, researchers are looking for better ways to manage and potentially cure chronic conditions like heart disease or Type 1 diabetes.

Though scientists are still investigating various types of regenerative medicine therapies, doctors are providing treatments that support your body’s natural healing process.

At Beverly Hills Optometry: Advanced Dry Eye Center, Dr. Silani and Dr. Youany are dedicated to providing the most advanced tools and treatments available to improve vision and eye health. For regenerative medicine, he uses Regener-Eyes, which is an FDA indicated eye drop.

Am I a candidate for regenerative medicine?

Drs. Silani and Younany conduct dry eye consultations for patients with concerns about vision changes or eye health. They may consider you a candidate for regenerative medicine if you have ocular surface disease.

Your ocular surface includes your cornea, conjunctiva, eyelids, and lacrimal gland. Any condition that affects the structure or function of your ocular surface is an ocular eye disease. Common ocular eye diseases include dry eyes, MGD, ocular rosacea, lagophthalmos, ocular alleriges, blepharitis, styes/hordeolums, chalazions and more.

If Dr. Silani or Dr. Younany determine you have an ocular surface disease, they may suggest regenerative medicine as treatment.

How does Regener-Eyes work?

Regener-Eyes is an FDA indicated eye drop for treating the dryness of eyes. It is a non-steroidal, preservative-free drop that stimulates your body’s natural healing process to restore the ocular surface of your eye. The advanced therapy eye drop contains nearly 800 specialized proteins that stimulate healing, including:

  • Cytokines to reduce inflammation
  • Chemokines to activate your immune system
  • Growth factors that trigger regeneration of new cells
  • Hyaluronic acid to lubricate and cushion your eye

When applied to your eye, Regener-Eyes activates ocular surface healing to alleviate symptoms and improve eye health. We often see and patient report reduced dependency on artifical tears as well as improvements in vital dye staining (punctate keratitis), Tear Break-Up Time (evaporative dry eye), tear osmolarity, and ocular/conjunctival redness.

Dr. Silani & Dr Younany provide specific instructions for use of the Regener-Eyes eye drops. Although patients may see changes within 4-6 weeks, our doctors commonly recommend using on a daily basis for 3-6 months (or longer in some moderate to advanced cases).

Though results vary, you may start to see improvements in eye health and vision within a few weeks (with frequency of 2-4x/day). There are two versions of Regener-Eyes, Pro vs Lite. The Pro version offers a higher concentration and is often advised for patients with moderate-to-severe condition while the Lite has a lesser concentration and is recommended for mild-to-moderate patients. While neither eye drop is required to be refrigerated, it is recommended since the cornea has temperature receptors and favors the cooling, smoothing effect.
